The hills around me stand silent,
Veiled in the darkness
Of a somber, bitter-chill winter night,
As though mourning for a beloved long gone
The cold winds blow from across the sea
Over the peaks, thru’ the valleys and the tree-tops
......searching
Their low howling strangely despondent
As though longing for a lost love.
The wolf on the mound raises his head,
Silhouetted against the purple of the skyline,
Calling to the moon with a beseeching heart,
As though crying for the return of his mate.
As I sit under a moonlit canopy of green
Looking out into the black distance,
A shadow of sadness across my face,
To you my melancholy thoughts belong…………
